The Prime Minister, John Key, has announced that there will be a National Day of Mourning for the victims of the Christchurch earthquake on Friday 18th March. There is going to be a special memorial service held in North Hagley Park in Christchurch at 12.45 on this day. Two minutes silence is going to be observed from 12.51, the time the 6.3 earthquake struck on the 22nd February. The people in Canterbury are also being given this day off as a provincial holiday.

Prince William is going to be attending the service in Christchurch.

Friday 18th March is also going to be black t-shirt day - see the website www.chchheart.co.nz. If you don't have one of the Christchurch heart t-shirts you could just wear a black t-shirt you already have to show your support for the the National Day of Mourning and for the victims of the Christchurch earthquake. Here are the T-Shirts as worn by children at our school.
